Cutty’s

.

A no-frills watering hole experience since 2012. Owned by brothers Ben and Nick D’Allesandro—who also operate the popular D’Allesandro’s Pizza directly across the street—this windowless back room on the first floor of a two-story building takes the concept of a dim dive bar to its extreme, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a house party than a traditional bar. The establishment is difficult to find, with a tiny single-door entrance on Bogard Street despite its St. Philip Street address, and no flashy signage to advertise its presence. Once known as Cutty’s Notary Public, the bar has evolved into what locals affectionately call “the Cheers of Elliotborough”—a neighborhood clubhouse where regulars and newcomers alike feel immediately at home.

The interior décor consists of handwritten “sassy” signs displaying dive bar wisdom (including the fan-favorite: “No, we don’t carry Michelob Ultra, check your dad’s Yeti cooler”). A small stage hosts occasional live music, DJ sets, and comedy nights, while pool tables and arcade games provide entertainment beyond the bar’s selection of drinks, including local favorites like SUNBOY spiked coconut water. The bar operates daily from 4 PM to 2 AM and features rotating food pop-ups that offer everything from Chef Jeremy’s Tacos de Bahia to gourmet hot dogs, ramen, and Indian cuisine. Cutty’s has cemented its reputation as an essential Charleston dive bar where the only rule is “don’t be an asshole”. Located at 227 St. Phillip Street 843.724.4111
